Many
teachers are looking for cross-curricular Literacy activities that
are challenging to all abilities, so textThing aims to help you provide
them in seconds. It will load your text - from disk, from the Clipboard
or web pages, or from one of the 100+ texts provided on the CD - and
generates nine unique Literacy activities quickly and easily.
          These
            are:
          Letter-by-letter
            - Recreate the text a letter at a time (disclosure)
            Word-by-word - Rebuild the text word-by-word (prediction)
Scrambled words - Turn jumbled letters into words to unscramble the
            text
Scrambled sentences - Find the correct sentence among several nonsense
            ones
Spelling tests - Test spelling in graduated tests using the loaded
            text
Sort text - Sort the sentences until the sequence makes sense
Punctuate - Put back the missing capital letters and punctuation
Fill the blanks - Enter the missing words (cloze procedure)
Print word puzzles - Print crosswords and word searches
          Additionally,
the program's two interfaces help match the work to the user. The
'Primary' interface is ideal for younger children, while the more
grown-up 'Adult' style suits secondary and ABE learners. Texts supplied
with the pack include poems, tales and stories, recipes, articles,
descriptive texts, letters, points of view, instructions and official
documents, and there are even extracts from Shakespeare, Alice in
Wonderland, Wind in the Willows, Aesops fables and Indian Tales.
          textThing
allows you to customise the activities for individuals or groups of
students, providing full control over difficulty levels so that you
can differentiate between them. You can even save 'Options' for a
particular student so that just the right text is loaded next time,
with just the right options, e.g. particular letter groups.
